Happy Birthday!
Well this weekend was all about friends’ birthdays, which has left me so tired! Friday night I went out for Ryan’s birthday, which is really this Tuesday. We went to a Greek/Italian restaurant and just hung out to play Apples to Apples. We are going to eat cake on his real birthday, but we wanted to get together before since everyone is going home next weekend for fall break; which I cannot wait for. Then last night, Saturday, we went downtown to Reel CafĂ© for Jessie and Angela’s birthday. We sat around and talked forever and then went out for ice cream and just walked downtown. After about thirty to forty minutes of wandering downtown, we came back to the apartment and watched One Tree Hill DVDs and played Apples to Apples. Everyone left around 2:30 in the morning…I was so tired! To top it off GA Tech beat UNC on Saturday, could not be happier about that!! All in all, this weekend was good. Now if only the homework fairy had come. I have a Logic test tomorrow, which I am kind of unsure about, so I have to study for that tonight. Also, I have my mid-term in my Film class on Tuesday; once again I am unsure about it, but better. I wonder where the first half of the semester went?!? This week is going to be a crazy one, but at the end of it I get to go home which should be fun!

The Obituaries
The obituary I chose to read for this assignment is Farrah Fawcett’s, published June 25, 2009. The article talks about her death from anal cancer that spread to other organs of her body. Farrah Fawcett is written to have been a great icon for many and had a fabulous career. They support these claims by talking about her hit red bathing suit poster that sold more copies than any other poster. They also give examples of her career by mentioning the “Charlie’s Angels” television show created by Aaron Spelling. The New York Times also mentions her start into the Hollywood business; she dropped out of college and started working in commercials. Discussion of her other roles, where she is mostly the victim, is brought up also. Overall, the obituary only discusses positive things and leaves us with fond thoughts of Ms. Fawcett. I think the whole point of having an obituary is to make others aware of the death and also let them know what type of person the deceased was.

Celebrity Shopping
OK… so I know I should be doing my homework and getting ready for tomorrow, but I will do it after this. Today I found out that I am going with my roommate to extra for One Tree Hill on Thursday. In preparation for this we went shopping after classes let out. As I was walking through Forever 21, I hear Stephanie whisper in a panic, “EMMA!” I asked what and she said that Amber Sweeney was just walking right by me. I said ok cool and made sure she was ok. Less than two minutes later she sees Joy and we decided it is time to try on our clothes. As we were going in Amber was going out, so all was good there. We were not in there a whole minute when both Amber and Joy came into the area. Stephanie was freaking out because Joy was across from me and Amber was standing outside just like she was. As we were in the confined area, we were hoping our cell phones would not go off, because both our phones have their songs on it, Amber kept looking at my clothes and Stephanie at Joy’s. Finally we finished and decided it was time to pay, but just as we were standing there Joy comes running out and starts trying to figure out what jewelry matches the outfit. So Stephanie decides to go to the other stand and look for a bracelet, which we find. Finally we pay and leave, the whole time second guessing not saying anything.
I have always found it rude to bother them when they are just trying to be normal people, but I think a part of us want to get a photo or autograph something. It was just funny seeing them in jeans and a shirt, not all dolled up like at filming. So it was an interesting day of shopping to say the least. Ok well I better get off and do homework! Chat soon!

Oh What A Party!
Ahh…so what a week! At the start of it, I wanted to write about football, because we are getting into that time of year!!! :-) However, I have a feeling that some people will have no idea what is going on and plus we are into next week’s games. So to say what I want in short I am happy GA Tech won (2-0 at the moment, but they are playing as I write this and not doing so well).
So off on another note, I think I should write about the party we had Monday night, for those of you who were not there. So… One Tree Hill had a season premiere and in accordance with Stephanie’s tradition we had a party. Our apartment was filled with about ten college girls and more Chinese food then a football team could eat, or so it seemed. In addition to Chinese, we had tons of soda-pop and twenty-four cupcakes. While all of us are crammed onto the few bar stools, the one couch, our arm chair and the floor our third roommate walks in with her boyfriend. As usual, they walk right by and shut themselves into her room. She always seems to have this way of showing up when we either have food or people over. As the show began, we were about ten minutes in and all of the sudden we start to hear these very disturbing sounds from her room. I’ll let your mind go where you let it, but I am sure you know what we were thinking. Stephanie and I found this very rude and uncalled for, because she knew we had tons of people over and we were sitting on the wall which is connected to her room. I mean don’t get me wrong it is no one’s place to say what she can and cannot do in her room, but come on have a little respect. You can do what you want, but don’t make it so clear that others know what you are doing, let alone people whose names you do not even know. So eventually the show comes to an end and it is found as a mix episode.
It is around 9:30 or ten, so we decide to drive around campus to drop everyone off so that they do not have to walk. Our biggest car holds five people, but we had six who lived on campus. So what do we do?? We stuff one into the back of the KIA. :-) We drive around and it was just so funny, had to be there kind of thing. We ended up rolling down the windows I had Halloween fairy wings on and we were screaming Joy out the window. It was a night to remember…both fun and interesting.
Alright, well hope everyone has a great Friday and a wonderful weekend!!! Maybe it will be a good weekend in my football world!!! :-)

Do You Speak English?
So this time around, I have to write about the English language. Although we think of English as one language, it has many subdivisions that we all speak. I know that I personally speak a few different versions of English. It is rare that I will word something the same way to both my friends and my professors. When speaking with teachers or anyone you respect and see to hold a higher power, you try to speak as proper and formal as possible. Whereas, with my family and friends, I tend to speak my own language, my mother calls it Emmaism’s (hint the blog name). This is where I come up with my own words or will mix different words together so that I can say what I want; this is never something I would do with the Dean or a professor.
In addition to speaking differently with people I am close to versus formal people, I also speak different when I am on the sports field. Out there we all have our own terms that some people do not understand if they do not speak that version of English. We talk about field positions, game plans, and other things of that nature.
Although this list could continue for a while, I think you get the gist of it. There are people in this world who speak whatever their business language is (i.e.: accounting, environmentalist), but some also claim to speak baby, animal, and others. I, however, do not claim to speak these because I don’t feel I have a profession, higher then professors or students, which would require me to use that type of English. What different types of English do you all speak? Can you relate at all to the type that I speak?

School Paper
Hey again…if any of you are actually following this sorry this post won’t be too exciting. However, I do think the article I will touch on is one to read.
For my first English paper I think I am going to use an article out of TIME Magazine. It’s titled “Jay Leno Is the Future of TV. Seriously”. I am considering this article because it is about entertainment which we all enjoy (or so I think) and I personally like late night talk shows that make you laugh. I also believe that the author is arguing a point which will allow (or so I am hoping) writing the paper to be a tad easier. Plus it might be less painful then trying to write a political topic.
Ok ya’ll hope you have a good Labor Day tomorrow!!! =)

Ranting About Now and the Future
OK…so today I want to rant about people who are totally inconsiderate of others (yes I have one person in mind who I am not going to name). I thought that people were raised with some degree of courtesy in their lifetime; this person was not. Why should I have to let someone live in an apartment that I pay my equal share for when they pay nothing (so don’t think that is fair). And in addition to always crashing at our place this person brings unwanted drinks into our place, so not cool. But aside from the non-rent payer, let’s turn to the one who does pay a share of the rent. Normal people know that they need to do laundry on a given day so they come home before one in the morning to do it. This person would rather keep everyone up while she runs the loud dryer till three thirty in the morning…some of us need sleep to get up early for classes which we care about. In addition to being up all night due to laundry this un-named person also likes to get up at seven on the weekend to watch T.V. (with the volume on high)! Then after asked to turn it down, the non-rent payer turns it right back up. After the T.V. show has ended (at 7:30 am) they decide to cook in the kitchen then leave the apartment for two days; while their dirty dishes are left for others to clean up. I mean come on people it’s not like you’re a freshman and are new to the fact that your mommy doesn’t live with you!! Gosh it just gets under my skin and drives me crazy!!
On to another thing that has bugged me this week…declaring a major! I mean come on I have no idea and I only have till September 28th to decide. I mean I know that you can change your mind and it’s not a big deal, but it is to me! I know everyone jumps around between a few different majors, but I just don’t know. I am always afraid that I am going to make the wrong decision and either let someone down (myself included) or be penalized down the road for that choice. I mean come on I’m not even twenty, how should I know what I want to do for the rest of my life. In addition, what if I love my major and then either can’t get a job with it or hate all the jobs that come with it. Everyone tells me that you’ll just go back to school, but how much debt can I build before it’s just too much. Not that I’m upset that I am paying my whole education, but at some point I’ll have to pay it back with interest. I just feel like this is a lot of pressure for me and I usually deal well under pressure. What to do what to do??? I am so on the fence with this subject. All my life people tell me what classes to take and when to do what, but this is my own decision and if I mess it up it’s all on me. =( I know that I have support from all the people around me and they are all really great on giving me their input (which I really take to heart), but in the back of my head I really have no idea what will make me happy for the rest of my life. I want to do something that I love, just not sure what that is this soon in life. How many people on this earth can say they love what they do and can’t wait to get up every morning! All I know is that I want to make a difference whatever it is I do and at some point I would like a family. I know that’s kind of far down the road, but still I think all girls have it at the back of their mind.
Ok well I am going to stop here and just relax. It feels good to get all this stuff off my brain and down on paper. Well thanks for reading and advice is always welcome! Night all
